Tim’s Story

You may know him as part of the upper-class act number 10, 6’7 forward on the San Diego State University Basketball team leading them to their No. 17 ranking in the NCAA but Tim Shelton’s life has not always been so glamorous…

As the son of an NBA player, Tim had a tumultuous childhood; bouncing back and forth between parents, and changing schools every year.  His mother, often, struggled just to keep food on the table. After the family’s separation she moved the boys to Sacramento where they lived in a homeless shelter for almost a year. At the age of 8 he was back and forth between parents, and by the age of 11, Tim was jumped into a gang, and started heading down a path that had a very bleak future. Ultimately, Tim enrolled in an after-school sports program.  It was there that he found his passion for sports and started to develop relationships with positive role models. He worked hard and sports motivated him to achieve in school, where he was recruited by, college basketball legend, Coach Fisher and offered scholarship to San Diego State University.  In May 2013 Tim will be a first generation Masters graduate.  He, now, understands the importance of staying in school, and the value of education. Instead of becoming a statistic, he beat the odds.

Helping to bring awareness to the high school dropout epidemic that faces this country, Tim has launched his campaign with After-School All-Stars to get SDSU students, alumni and supporters to create personal fundraising pages to get the word out about the crisis, and raise money to fund “We Are Ready: A High School Dropout Prevention Program”. By raising just $26, you will receive a limited edition “The Show” t-shirt.  Join Tim and start fundraising today!
