Tournament hopes for floundering San Diego State could be fading away?

San Diego State has lost three straight, four of there last six, is San Diego State still a lock for the NCAA Tournament in March? Based on how good the competition is in the NCAA Nationally this year it will take a team that wants to play in March a 25 or 26 win season. Does San Diego State have a resume to be considered a team that should be playing in March? San Diego State  definitely does with quality wins over: at Arizona, USC, CAL, Long Beach, UNLV and  New Mexico. Out of the 6 losses that San Diego State has suffered 5 of those teams are raking 30 or higher in the RPI (ratings percentage index) losses to Baylor, Creighton, Colorado State, Vegas (UNLV), New Mexico  and Air Force. Two of those losses coming this last week have moved San Diego State from being ranked #13 to #25 and from being a 3rd seed to being the 7th seed.

San Diego State has lost its chance at back to back regular season conference titles with the loss vs. New Mexico and are currently 20-6 (6-4) putting them in a tie for 2nd place with Vegas. The Aztecs are rounding out the rest of the regular season with its final two home games against Wyoming (RPI 88) on Wednesday and Colorado State on Saturday. San Diego State will then travel to Boise State (169) and round the year out with a game at Texas Christian (RPI 107).  Based on who is winning what we can automatically say San Diego State must win out the rest of the regular season, 1 to 2 losses could make a huge difference for the Aztecs in terms of going to the NCAA tournament or going to the NIT. Below I am going to give some possible  senerios for San Diego State and what those implications could mean for post season play .

Regular Season

San Diego State wins out  (24-6) Can lose all but would be help fun to win some.

San Diego State wins 3/4 (23-7) Must win 1 game in the MWC Tournament

San Diego State Splits 2/4 (22-8) must win 2 games in the MWC Tournament

All of these thing are required for  San Diego State and Postseason aka NCAA tournament  to meet in March. If the Aztecs cannot follow through we could be sitting in March watching the Aztecs play in the NIT.
