The actress and director was awarded the ‘American Cinematheque’ award in Los Angeles on Friday.

Charlize Theron was "deeply overwhelmed" when he picked up the prestigious ‘American Cinematheque’ in Los Angeles on Friday.

The 44-year-old actress, producer and humanitarian was selected by the non-profit artistic organization for her efforts as an "extraordinary filmmaker in the entertainment industry."

After collecting the award, the star of ‘Atomic Blonde’ told Entertainment Tonight how meaningful it is to be recognized for her hard work.

“Work is a great gift. She is made that she should do this, ”she shared. "Things like tonight really make you reflect on this trip and how you got here and everything you've experienced and fought."

The Long Shot actress continued: “I feel deeply overwhelmed by all that. And I'm just trying not to spoil my makeup too soon. At least I want to look pretty a little before I start crying. ”
