Under the agreement, the winner of the several Grammy prize will take a 60% stake in a subsidiary of Canopy Growth, which is publicly traded and produces cannabis in the nearby town of Scarborough, Ontario.
Canopy shares quoted in the United States, which last year attracted a significant investment from Corona Constellation Brands, rose by about 3% at the beginning of the session.
Drake joins other artists and celebrities who have partnered with Canadian cannabis companies since the country approved the recreational use of marijuana.
Earlier this year, lifestyle guru Martha Stewart joined Canopy as an advisor to develop a line of marijuana-based products for humans and animals. Rapper Snoop Dogg has also partnered with Canopy through a division called Tweed.
Canopy and Drake said the company, called More Life Growth Co, would be "focused on well-being, discovery and overall personal growth."
