It's official. After years of rumor and idyll among several European countries, Elon Musk confirmed that Germany is the country chosen to have the first Tesla Gigafactory in Europe.

The announcement came surprisingly and without much detail, as Elon Musk mentioned it after taking the stage to receive the Golden Steering Wheel Award from BILD in Germany. Musk's words were few but accurate in confirming the new Tesla Gigafactory 4: "Tonight there is not enough time to tell all the details, but it will be in the Berlin area, near the new airport."

A curious aspect is that Musk was on stage accompanied by Herbert Diess, CEO of the Volkswagen Group. And in fact Diess thanked Musk publicly for having "pushed" them towards electrification and also "demonstrating that it works."

During a brief exchange of words, Musk was asked why German automakers were behind in electric vehicles, which was very diplomatic when he said "Germany is not late", and mention that the best cars in the world They are manufactured in Germany.

"Everyone knows that German engineering is exceptional and that is part of the reason why we are placing our first Gigafactory Europe in Germany."

Elon Musk also confirmed that they will not only build a Gigafactory, but also their first European engineering and design center, which will also be in Berlin in a place to be confirmed. "I think Berlin has some of the best works of art in the world."

It must be remembered that Elon Musk had finally given signs of the imminent announcement of the first Gigafactory during Tesla's past financial results, where he confirmed that he would release the details before the end of the year.

Another important detail is that Tesla will use this new Gigafactory to manufacture Model 3, Model Y, batteries and powertrains.
