Today is the 96th anniversary of the birth of René Favaloro and the Google Doodle team dedicates his drawing to him.

René Favaloro is a famous Argentinean surgeon. He first introduced a coronary artery bypass operation into clinical practice.

He was born in the city of La Plata in 1923. For the first 12 years, he worked as a rural doctor in the Hasinto Arauz farming community. It was there that René Favaloro built the operating room and trained his own nurses. He also created a local blood bank and taught patients how to prevent diseases. This forever convinced him that health is a basic human right, regardless of economic circumstances.

In 1962, he moved to the United States to practice at the Cleveland Clinic. There he began working together with Mason Sons, a pioneer of kinesinography. After studying the angiograms in the Sones library, Dr. Favaloro was convinced that coronary artery bypass surgery could be an effective therapy.

Returning to Argentina in the early 1970s, Dr. René Favaloro set up his foundation in Buenos Aires. The center serves patients based on their medical needs, not on their ability to pay. He also teaches innovative methods for doctors throughout Latin America.
