Former US President Jimmy Carter was recovering Tuesday at Emory University Hospital from surgery performed to relieve the brain pressure caused by hemorrhages caused by falls he recently suffered, his spokeswoman said.

The procedure, scheduled for tomorrow, had no complications, Deanna Congileo said in a statement.

Jimmy Carter, 95, has suffered at least three falls so far this year, and the first incident required a hip replacement operation. I travel to Nashville, Tennessee, and help build a Habitat for Humanity house after receiving 14 stitches after falling on October 6. In addition, he was briefly hospitalized after the pelvis fractured on October 21.

The 39 non-US president, the longest of them, was diagnosed with cancer in 2015, but has survived and remains free of the disease since then.
